A great job is one that pays well and is enjoyable too. What it doesn’t need to do is to fit a mold. As long as it helps answer an internal need, it should be on your list.

Take trucking jobs, for instance. While it’s hard work, it can be just right for anyone with plenty of restless energy and a love of the outdoors. According to J. Ray L, the reputed trucking education and logistics company based in Columbus, Ohio, truckers’ jobs pay $40,000 a year to someone who is new to the profession, and as much as a $100,000 a year for experience.

It may not be as glamorous getting telling people about your trucker’s career as telling them about your job as a corporate worker; you simply need to remember that it’s a job that makes you happy. The fact that you make more than most people around you is a bonus.

Here are five other jobs that rarely get much attention. They actually make you more than most corporate jobs that require a four-year degree and a $200,000 student loan, though.

Be a voice artist

Like regular actors, artists who act with the voice range from superstars such as Mel Blanc, the voice of Bugs Bunny, to everyday artists who speak on garden-variety advertisements and presentations.

The hardest part of achieving success as a voice artist is making the connections needed to get gigs. Finding the right training at a voice studio, signing up to freelance voiceover talent directories and attending voiceover conferences are important parts of establishing yourself. If you persevere, it isn’t it difficult to make more than $50,000 a year. It’s an immensely fun job, too.

Be a high-flying air-traffic controller

Keeping track of aircraft and telling them where to go is a complex and skilled job. Choosing a career as an air traffic controller pays as much as $80,000 a year on average, and $200,000 for the best positions.

Air traffic controllers in the US are usually employed directly by the Federal Aviation Administration. Entry into the field comes in two ways. You can either gain the experience required by working in the Armed Forces, or sign up to the Air Traffic College and Training Initiative program run by the FAA at the Air Traffic Control Academy. The course can take 2 to 4 years to complete. Once you’re done, you’re placed in charge of keeping airports and air corridors well-organized. If you love aircraft, it can be a wonderful position to have.

Be a tower technician

Tower technicians, professionals whose work it is to install and maintain equipment on mobile phone towers, have a fun outdoors life. Traveling to new towns each day and working high above the ground, these jobs are great for people who can’t bear the thought of being tied to a desk. You don’t need a college degree; you can come to the job straight from high school, and simply receive your training as you work. It pays as much as $75,000 a year.

Looking at unexplored career options can be a liberating experience. You realize that the world doesn’t force you into molds, at all. There is every option available, and a great deal of it pays well.
