Wow, it was a busy day today. With only seven days left in the campaign after tonight, the action is getting fast and furious. So here are some of the highlights today.
Stevens convicted
I can’t say I am shocked by this one. Stevens, the arrogant Alaska Senator, was convicted on all seven counts earlier today. Not surprisingly, he is denying the verdict and claiming he will fight on, while also continuing his bid for re-election. Now giving Alaskans credit for the fact that they may have fallen prey to the folksy Sarah Palin as Governor, I am betting that they are going to get this one right and vote Stevens out of office.
Obama’s “closing argument”
Barack Obama is taking nothing for granted, pushing his campaign staff and voters to work hard this week to insure a victory next Tuesday. “Don’t think for a minute that power concedes. We have a lot of work to do. We have to work like our future depends on it in this last week, because it does depend on it this week,” he said.
Kicking off a final push in Ohio and Pennsylvania, Obama will be spending the bulk of his remaining campaign in states typically seen as Republican, and who supported Bush. In his remarks today, Obama reframed the Reagan question of 1980. “The question in this election is not ‘Are you better off than you were four years ago?’” Obama said in his 31-minute speech in Canton, Ohio. “We know the answer to that. The real question is, ‘Will this country be better off four years from now?’”
McCain silent on Ashley Todd
This is a terrific campaign comment from Keith Olbermann. No yelling, but he sent a very loud message to Senator McCain.
Senator, listen to Keith; he is right.
The not-so-silent mutiny
Here’s a great bit from Hardball tonight on The Diva versus The Maverick. I have never seen in-fighting this visible before.
Neo-Nazi plot foiled
The ATF has foiled what appears to be a serious but half-baked plot on the part of two neo-Nazi skinheads. Daniel Cowart, (20, of Tennessee) and Paul Schlesselman (18, or Arkansas). The two planned to rob a firearms store and then proceed to kill 88 African-Americans, planning to behead 14 of them. Both numbers are significant in neo-Nazi culture.
The two planned to begin their slaughter in an Arkansas high school, and hoped to culminate their work with the assassination of Senator Barack Obama. When they were arrested, the two were in possession of a rifle, a sawed-off shotgun and three pistols.
And no, these two don’t rate Golden Momos, because no one should actually ever remember these “people.” They deserve to sit in a cell, for a long time, forgotten by the outside world that they represent the very worst of.
Lieberman back-tracking
Independent Senator Joe Lieberman (CT), who previously suggested that Barack Obama might be a Marxist, suddenly is tripping over himself to complement the potential President-Elect. Gee, you don’t think he is starting to get nervous about getting booted out of the Democratic Caucus after Obama’s election, do you? As I have said previously, his only hope is that the Democrats finish with 60 Senate seats; it’s the only was he will keep his committee chair position after this election.
For their part, the Republicans have said that they would welcome Lieberman with “open arms.” Cue the soft “Journey” music in the background; this is a match made in Heaven, or somewhere.
Attack over Syrian border
The U.S. carried out an attack on suspected al Qaeda targets in Syria on Sunday, once again earning the love of the people in the Middle East. Of course the finger pointing is going both ways, and who knows what we will learn about this in the future. To me, it simply underscores the need to improve our standing around the world. When we stop alienating other nations, we may well find that their tolerance for harboring terrorists will come to an end.
An idiot on the left
It’s not just neocons and racists that draw my ire at this time in the campaign. Today we introduce Chad Michael Morisette, who thought it would be funny (or would be art) to hang a Palin-dressed mannequin by a noose from his roof while also displaying a mannequin of John McCain burning in his chimney. Perhaps Mr. Morisette hasn’t been paying attention to the news and to the hatred coming from the right directed towards Obama. Perhaps Mr. Morisette just places his artistic freedom above all else, including common sense. Or, he could just be an idiot. In any event, he is now a recipient of the Golden Momo award. He can also be seen in the above “Worst Person” video.
Speaking of idiots…
I bashed Barbara West yesterday for her ridiculous questions of Joe Biden on the air. The reason why they sounded like talking points from Fixed Noise? Her husband is a Republican operative. Typical.
Finishing with funnies

Just like Biden, you’re offended by the heat in the kitchen. Obama is “out” whether it happens before the election or after.

LOL… you better save some of what you’re smoking for after the election; you’re going to need it.
Apparently you can’t (or won’t) differentiate between reality and the sound bytes you are being fed from the campaign and from Fixed Noise. Make sure you keep this in your memory - you will blast Obama for his economic policies without any true knowledge, then realize you are wrong. Instead of admitting you are wrong, you will move on to social wedge issues. But when you realize that Obama isn’t going to take away everyone’s guns, or impose Islamic law upon the nation, or abort every baby in the third term, you will again realize that you are wrong.
Four years from now, under an Obama presidency, this nation will be much better off than it is now, and you will be just as wrong. And then maybe, just maybe, you will learn an important lesson:
If you are wrong, and can’t admit you’re wrong, then there is honor and wisdom in silence.
